Welcoming Uncertainty

Perry’s Blog: October 10, 2014

I don’t think I can remember an enterprise in my life where I had less of a guess about how things would go than what we’re up to right now. On October 15, we will launch our Kickstarter fundraising campaign. If you told me no one would join in at all, I’d believe you. If you told me it would go through the roof, be a huge success, I’d believe that too. I simply have no idea how things will go. I cannot remember a time when I was more in the dark about my future, unless perhaps it was when I was applying to college.

I was told by the experts at my school not to even try for Harvard, Yale, or Columbia – not to even waste their time. Typical of me at the time, I applied to all three. I was accepted by all three (I think because I was extremely lucky). I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life (acting) and it just happened that colleges had, perhaps that year, changed their goals to prioritize focused students. Boy, did that make the experts at my school angry! They thought I’d beaten the system somehow. I think they should have known better. In any case, naturally I’m hoping to be lucky again. I’m hoping that by some serendipitous chance, there are lots of people out there who want to feel a part of The Divide, and want to see what kind of story we will tell. I know I want to see that too. More than anything else in my life right now, I want to see the story we will tell.
