Post-production Update

Dear Friends of The Divide,

Happy spring. So many of you have been asking where we are in our process of getting the film out. The truth is that we are very close to this milestone, yet also a little further away than we hoped we would be at this stage.

We have a cut that is very close to final, and are in the process of sharing it with others. The response to the cut has been quite positive, with viewers praising the acting, the cinematography, and the story. Those are three key elements to making a good film. We are very proud!

Other news:

  • We have engaged composers Jay Ungar and Molly Mason to score The Divide. They are known for their beautiful folk music, featuring violins. The music of Jay and Molly was featured in the Ken Burns documentary The Civil War and also in the true crime documentary Brother’s Keeper.

  • Gillian L. Hutshing has joined Russ Rayburn on The Divide editing team. Gillian (pronounced with a hard “G”) is known for her work on several feature films, including Little Shop of Horrors: Director’s Cut, The Town: Extended Cut, and Blade Runner: The Final Cut. She has worked with many acclaimed directors, including Sir Ridley Scott, Ben Affleck, Frank Oz, Peter Weir, Kevin Costner, and Mel Gibson, among others.

  • We have secured the assistance of two-time Academy Award-winning sound editor Karen Baker Landers. Among her many credits, Karen has earned Oscars for sound work in Skyfall and The Bourne Ultimatum. She also has won awards for sound editing on Ray, Green Lantern, and Black Hawk Down and been nominated for her work on many other films, including Seabiscuit, The Bourne Identity, and The Bourne Supremacy. Her credits are too many to count.

So, here is where we are: We hoped to get the film out sooner, but are working to make it the best it can be. That means taking longer than expected to complete post-production. Thank you to everyone for hanging in there with us. We hope that, when we are able to release The Divide, you will be as pleased with it as we are.

Finally, we are proud to share that three of our actors from The Divide have recently achieved success in other endeavors. Luke Colombero, who plays C.J., was a recipient for his work in Operation: Neighborhood Watch! of a Young Entertainer Award – Best Young Ensemble Cast in a Feature Film. Lilli Passero, who has a small role in the film, is currently a contestant on NBC’s The Voice. And Jack McGuinness, who plays Carson in The Divide, has been nominated as best supporting actor at the Northern Virginia Film Festival for his work in the short film then (with a lowercase "t"). Congratulations to all of them. Luke (l.) and Jack (r.) can be seen in the photo below with actress Sara Arrington.

More to come soon.

Perry, Jana, and Russ
