THE DIVIDE, A NEW INDEPENDENT FILM FROM ACTOR/DIRECTOR PERRY KING IN PRE-PRODUCTION IN THE GOLD COUN

Los Angeles, CA (September 15, 2014) —Veteran actor/director Perry King (Riptide, The Day After Tomorrow) is pleased to announce the launch of pre-production for his new independent Western The Divide, from Left for Dead Productions.

“For years and years I’ve wanted to make a Western on my own land and finally I’ve got the script to do it,” says King. King and his Left for Dead Productions collaborators, New Hampshire-based screenwriter Jana Brown and Chicago-area filmmaker Russ Rayburn, are in pre-production with script breakdown, crew selection, casting, location scouting, camera and screen testing, and other logistics of shooting the film. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2015.

Set in drought-plagued Northern California in 1973, The Divide chronicles the story of Sam Kincaid (King), an aging rancher with a failing memory, his estranged and independent-minded daughter, Sarah, and Luke, a young ranch hand who finds himself in the midst of a family in crisis. Internal struggles, the realities of an unforgiving landscape, and the need to reconcile a long-ago tragedy collide to create the backdrop for this classic American Western.

The Divide will be filmed almost exclusively on the authentic setting of a 500-acre cattle ranch in the Gold Rush country in El Dorado County, California. While King has enjoyed decades of success in Hollywood, he has long aspired to break out of the traditional Hollywood format and film an independent movie on his own terms, a simple, thoughtful production that will reflect both the tone of the film and the stark simplicity of the landscape of Northern California in the 1970s.

“I want to make a film about the drama of ordinary life,” says King, noting that he has found that story in the simple yet ultimately complicated existence of Sam Kincaid and The Divide.
